How to change the country or region in Windows 10

The initial location of a country or region in Windows, called a geographic location (GeoID), indicates the country or region in which you are located. Some programmes, including Windows, may provide additional content for a particular location. Some services provide you with local information such as news and weather.

If you move or move to another country or region, you may need to change your location (GeoID). You can return to your original country or region at any time.

How to change the country or region using “Windows Settings”

To change the country or region, open the Settings application by pressing the Start button on the taskbar and then select Settings or press the Win+ I shortcut on your keyboard.

In the Settings window that opens, select Time and Language.

Then select the Region tab, and on the right-hand side of the window select the required country from the Country or region drop-down list.

Also, change the region format below if necessary.

How to change the country or region using the registry editor

To change the country or region, open the registry editor by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, enter (copy and paste) regedit in the Run window that opens and press Enter.

In the registry editor window, navigate to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Control Panel\\\International\\Geo

Select the Geo section and double left click on the Nation line parameter on the right side of the window.

Then enter the geographic location identification number (e.g. 235) for your country or region and press OK.

How to change country or region using Windows PowerShell

You can also use the Windows PowerShell console to change the country or region.

To see the current location of a country or region (GeoID), open a PowerShell console and run the following command:

Get-WinHomeLocation

To change the country or region, in the Windows PowerShell console and run the following command

Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId GeoID_number

Replace the GeoID_number in the command shown above with the actual GeoID number from the table below.

In this example, the command looks like this

Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId 235
